Does your family have those moments or phrases that get repeated over and over as often as opportunities present themselves? Mine too. One of our most famous ones came from my sister. I was in high school and we were on vacation at the river. I was happily lounging on a float engrossed in the novel of the month when my sister spouted, "Why read a book when you don't have to?" No, she has not yet lived it down. She hasn't necessarily changed her mind either—even though she is now a kindergarten teacher.
However, reading stuck with me and was important to me as a foster parent as well. I have taken all of my fosters to used books stores and encouraged them to read above their level. We found fantasy lands where dinosaurs learned to share and unicorns ate crayons. Words on pages have a sort of magic that way. In honor of National Book Lovers Day, I put together 50 reading recs {with a little help from my friends}. Check it out on Houston Moms Blog. I'm always looking for new titles so drop me a line in the comments and let me know what your latest fave has been! xoxo Click here to be a part of our foster adoption journey!
