I've always considered books to be important tools. They can carry us away, help us discover what we were searching for, instruct us, coddle us, and convict us. For children, reading and being read to is especially important. In our home, The Important Book became a quick favorite. While I appreciated the brevity and they loved that they could memorize it, it held a message that we latched on to. What is the important thing? About your day, this leaf, this rule you broke. It gave us a way to talk about both simple and hard things. But they also turned it around me, because moms are important, too.
