Y'all. We did it. We chose a paint color! Well—kind of. What really happened was William said I had exhausted my paint sample budget and had to choose from what we had. (Really, it's better this way. I should never be allowed to look at 1,526,321 color blocks anyway.) So after many trips to the hardware store, Pinterest views, and researching the emotions evoked by colors, it's settled! Drum roll please... :: Peek-a-Blue with Blue Hydrangea trim :: The combination has the added benefit of marrying two of my lifetime loves: puns and the memory of my Pa. Even now I second guess my decision, but William seems markedly thrilled by the choice (or just the fact that there was a choice, either way). For me, it was an emotional day. There have been so many steps toward this process, each more real than the last. But for some reason, I suppose because it was so tangible, I began to feel like we were taking a huge stride forward. A leap into, "Yes! We are really doing this! We are committed!" But there was also an element of caution. I have to keep a guard in place and not cross a fine line into "nesting;" reminding myself that we are preparing to hopefully one day be a permanent home, but that we may be helping a few along the way as well. Before we coated the walls with their new shade of paint, we wanted to protect our new walls and the children who would pass through the room with scripture. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. Proverbs 3:24 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 I have no greater joy than to know my children walk in the truth. 3 John 1:4 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 For us, it was important for us to not only bind ourselves and our hearts with the Truth, but to bind the room as well. [side note: "binder" is defined as a substance that acts cohesively. Can you ask for a better picture of attaching ourselves to God's promises? Okay, back to the post at hand.] As we continue to pray for the families that we will one day be a part of, I hope we can not only provide a shelter from the current storm they are experiencing, but that we will have the presence of mind and opportunity to shine the light of Jesus as well along the way. I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35 xoxo
