Do you ever get the feeling you've been sidelined? As if you are existing just on the brink of everything going on and you can see it, but you can't quite reach. Ironically, that happened to us. Another unpredicted side effect from fostering. Because we do not have biological children, when we work to reunite our foster loves with their families, we become empty nesters. Empty nesters don't get invitations to kid parties. It really was a strange feeling at first being the odd mom out. Especially because we went back and forth... We have a placement—we're in! They went home, oh, so you don't want to come to Gracie's 3rd birthday, then? No, I do! I still care about you and your kiddos even when—especially when—our playroom is empty.
